Experienced radon testing & radon mitigation contractor in Derby

Does your home or property have high radon levels? If levels are above 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends installing a radon reduction system. As a tasteless, odorless, and invisible gas, radon can only be identified through testing. So if you're not sure about your property, Apex Radon Solutions is the trusted radon mitigation company that can help you answer this question!

Health facts about home radon:

  • Radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer among non-smokers in the United States.
  • More than 20,000 Americans die of radon-related lung cancer every year.
  • Radon is a more significant health risk for children than adults.
  • Breathing radon poses a greater health risk than ingesting water that contains radon.
  • Smokers exposed to radon will substantially increase their likelihood of developing lung cancer.

While having any amount of radon in your home or building can be scary, there is no reason to worry. The modern radon mitigation systems from Apex Radon Solutions are highly effective in reducing home radon levels without causing much inconvenience.

At Apex Radon Solutions, we can help you choose the correct radon mitigation solution for your home and ensure that the installation process goes smoothly.

Job Stories From Derby, CT
Radon System Restoration and Expansion Planned for Derby Split-Level Home

In Derby, we returned to a split-level home built in the 1980s after radon levels tested at approximately 6.9 pCi/L and the existing mitigation system had been heavily damaged.

During the original consultation, the homeowner had already planned to remove portions of the previous radon system and permanently seal several older openings left behind from the original installation. One of the former pipe penetrations is also planned to be repurposed for a future fish tank setup within the home.

After returning to the property for a follow-up evaluation, it was determined that the existing radon system had been further damaged and would require significant restoration work before reliable mitigation performance could be reestablished.

The updated mitigation plan now includes reconnecting the original extraction point where the system enters the home, adding a second extraction point to improve sub-slab airflow coverage beneath the split-level foundation areas, and replacing the existing fan to restore proper system operation.

Because split-level homes often contain separated lower foundation sections and varying slab elevations, expanding the system with an additional extraction point will help strengthen airflow communication beneath the structure and improve long-term radon reduction performance.

The project focused on rebuilding and upgrading the damaged mitigation system while improving airflow coverage beneath the home for healthier long-term indoor air conditions.

Radon Mitigation System Planned for Historic Derby Home

In Derby, we reviewed a home built in 1913 where previous radon readings had tested between 3.4 and 3.6 pCi/L. The homeowner had lived in the property for several years and wanted to move forward with installing a mitigation system before the end of the year.

The home has a single fieldstone foundation along with a sump pump area, both of which were considered during the planning process. Older homes with fieldstone foundations often require careful system design due to the way airflow moves beneath and around the structure.

The visit focused on evaluating the basement layout and determining the best mitigation approach for the foundation conditions while maintaining clean system placement within the home.

Custom Radon Mitigation for a 1879 Home in Derby, CT

In Derby, CT, the owner of a 1500 sq ft home built in 1879 needed to address a radon level of 3.6. With no existing mitigation system and no sump pumps or open pits, we customized a solution that included installing a new radon system near the furnace, optimizing space and accessibility. We also sealed areas under the furnace to prevent radon entry, routing the system's pipes to exit on the less conspicuous side of the home. This project highlights our expertise in adapting radon mitigation strategies to the unique challenges of older homes.

Efficient Space Management for Radon Mitigation in Derby

For a Derby home built in 1974, addressing a radon level of 5.8 pCi/L required innovative space management. The installation site was constricted by exterior stairs and an air conditioning unit. We successfully installed the radon fan to the right of the stairs, optimizing the limited space while ensuring effective radon reduction. This project exemplifies our ability to adapt to physical constraints, providing a safe living environment for potential buyers.
