In Colebrook, a homeowner decided to address elevated radon levels after testing measured 4.2 pCi/L. To provide long-term radon reduction and improve the condition of the home's lower level, a combination of radon mitigation, foundation sealing, and crawl space encapsulation was recommended.
The home will receive a one-point radon mitigation system with the vent pipe routed out the rear of the house near the air conditioning unit. The property also has an existing WaterGuard drainage system installed by an unknown contractor. During installation, the drainage system will be inspected and carefully integrated into the mitigation design as needed to ensure proper system performance.
In the finished portions of the basement, foundation joints and accessible openings will be sealed with professional-grade caulk to help reduce radon entry and improve the effectiveness of the mitigation system. In addition, approximately 900 square feet of crawl space will be encapsulated with a durable CleanSpace vapor barrier. Encapsulation helps isolate the crawl space from the earth below, reducing moisture intrusion while improving the overall performance of the radon mitigation system.
